Tell me about you: where are you from, how old are you?

My name is Eleen Halvorsen. I grew up by the water outside a coastal city in Norway. Moved to New York via Oslo when I was 22, I’m 35 now.

What do you do?

I’m an artist and designer. I work across mediums spanning, clothing, objects, sculpture and installations.

When did you know that Fashion was something you were passionate about?

I guess I’ve been very aesthetically opinionated ever since I was a kid, something that has always included varied sources of visual expression. But it wasn’t until I was accepted into Parsons in New York, after finishing up my business school degree in Oslo, that I realized that fashion and art could possibly be a career path.

What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?

don’t know if there is one specific event in particular, but rather being able to stay true to my vision and carve out a tiny, independent corner for myself in a large, cutthroat industry, and to see that little corner slowly growing into a self-supporting business. It has definitely not been without its challenges, and I still have a long way to go. It’s a lifelong journey.

Life quote: If there was one quote that summed up your view on life
what would it be?

Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can. This quote used to hang over my sewing machine in my old studio in Brooklyn and still rings true for me today.

How can we stay connected with you?

What advice do you have for others aspiring to do what you do?

If you’re in this for the long game, stay true to your vision and don’t get thrown off your path by hype and trends. Patience is a virtue. Stay humble, develop your craft. Don’t be afraid to not know how to finish something before you start. With a strong, clear vision and the skill set to back it up you can really create anything you set your mind to.
